‘The Following': Joe’s Execution Day Arrives

All season long has been building up to Joe’s execution, and it took a shocking Hollywood Gossip twist! ‘The Following’ said adios to a major character on April 27’s episode, and it feels very, very final. Here’s our recap!

The Following is throwing us more shockers, and Joe’s execution day proved that things are becoming more intense for Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) and Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon). Major developments occurred in the tenth episode of season three — and some closure also came about following a shocking death. Find out who died!

‘The Following:’ Joe Dead After Execution Day
“Quoth the raven: Nevermore,” is what Joe says to Ryan right before Joe dies. (Those words will also be haunting our dreams!)

Yep, that’s right — farewell Joe Carroll! The cult leader who has tormented Ryan for years and caused major psychological damage bit the dust — and it looks like for good this time! Honestly, we’ve been waiting for this day to come.

On the morning of Joe’s execution, he holds hostages to lure Ryan to come to him, and much to Joe’s amusement, he finally does. Ryan clearly didn’t listen to his girlfriend Gwen’s pleas to not feed into Joe’s demands. But alas, is Ryan really a follower of Joe?

That’s at least what Joe begs Ryan to admit, after stringing him up with wire and demanding him to admit that Joe is the only one who knows the real him and that’s he’s a “devoted follower.” He also gets Ryan to admit that he had dreams about him, and in those dreams Joe taught him how to kill. Such a twisted relationship they have, and even though Joe is gone, we think it will still drive the show.
